What Are Aerospace Greases?
Greases make up a large part of the lubricant family. These semi-solid lubricants are thicker than liquids and oils which helps them stay in place. Aircraft grease is excellent when you need to seal moving parts against leaks or environmental ingress. It also is easier to apply and doesn’t need to be refreshed as often. Some greases even help absorb vibrations and shocks.
Common uses for grease include lubricating shafts, bearings, gears, chains, and hinges. They mostly consist of a base oil but have a thickener to achieve the gel-like consistency plus other additives depending on what properties are desired.
