When a paint or paint system is approved by an aerospace Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), it means that the product meets all of the requirements set out by that operator in terms of performance.
OEM batches that carry a full OEM specification in their product name are tested in full by AkzoNobel to the OEM specification mentioned, and AkzoNobel will provide CofC/CofA in conjunction with the specification.
Products identified as “AkzoNobel MRO Quality” are the same composition as an OEM batch, but the MRO batches are not tested according to OEM requirements, only to AkzoNobel's internal quality requirements and consequently do not mention OEM specifications on their label or on their conformity document (CoC; CoA).
Please note that OEM batches often carry a much longer lead time, as the testing requirements drive additional processes and can also affect the site that the product can be manufactured at. MRO batches instead can usually be mixed locally, leading to a quicker turnaround time for MRO tasks.
If you are unsure, please speak to one of our team to confirm if the product you are looking at will meet all of your testing and traceability requirements.
