The Benefits of Changing from Clay Based to Lithium Complex Based Greases

As discussed in Greases Explained, a grease is made up of a mineral or synthetic base oil, a thickener, and an additive package.

Clay-based thickeners, such as Microgel® in AeroShell Grease 7 and 22, have been used in aircraft since the 1960s, owing to their good water resistance and high-temperature properties. They have served the aviation industry well and will continue to where high temperature performance is required.

However, over time, the requirements for greases have become more and more complex, requiring the use of a wider range of sophisticated additives. At the same time, customer expectations for durability have risen.

AeroShell Grease 33

AeroShell Grease 33 is approved to *BMS 3-33C Type 1, *MIL-PRF-23827C Type I and  *IPS 06-09-002-03 is a synthetic universal airframe grease composed of a lithium complex thickened synthetic base oil with corrosion and oxidation inhibitors and load carrying additives.

For many years, this was the only grease to meet the original BMS 3-33 specification. It remains the product to beat by offering superior corrosion and wear protection compared to other approved greases.

By replacing multiple products, AeroShell Grease 33 can help to reduce costs by simplifying maintenance procedures and product inventories, and can improve safety by reducing the risk of product misapplication. It is trusted by leading airlines and has more in-service time than any other grease in its class.

Features:

  • Reduced costs through superior protection, longer grease life and simplified maintenance and inventories
  • Longer component life from superior corrosion and wear protection
  • Longer grease life through excellent mechanical stability and controlled oil separation
  • Peace of mind from a grease with more in-service hours than any grease in its class
