Wheel Bearing Greases

As air travel develops, the need for modern aircraft with more efficient equipment intensifies. To keep this equipment running, the greases, oils and other consumable chemicals involved in the maintenance process need to adapt to meet the extreme demands placed on them.

 

For many years, the MIL-PRF-81322 specification was the driving specification when it came to wheel bearing applications.

More recently, the SAE-AMS-3058 specification has been introduced, calling for lithium or lithium-complex based greases that exceed the requirements for load carrying capacity, corrosion protection and mechanical stability as well as coping with the more extreme demands placed on the wheel bearings by the latest runway de-icing fluids.

But the correct use of a grease is not limited to meeting military and civil aviation specifications. The grease also needs to gain approval from the OEM equipment manufacturer, and leading greases in the Silmid portfolio meet this additional requirement.


AeroShell Grease 58

An advanced general purpose and wheel bearing grease composed of a synthetic base fluid and a lithium complex soap thickener. AeroShell Grease 58 has been shown in tests and in use by airlines to have superior corrosion control and anti-wear performance.

Nyco Grease GN 3058

A lithium complex thickened synthetic grease demonstrating high load carrying capability and good resistance to water wash-out.
