What products are available to help aerospace customers combat COVID-19 and other viruses?

As people begin to return to the workplace during the coronavirus pandemic, it is more important than ever to ensure factories, offices, warehouses, equipment and aircraft are clean and free of bacteria and viruses.

Silmid have introduced a wide array of products tested in accordance with EN 14476 (virucidal activity) and EN 1276 (bactericidal activity), for use across the aerospace industry.

What are EN 14476 and EN 1276?

EN 14476 and EN 1276 are European standards used to identify products that, after thorough testing, are proven to be effective against virus and bacteria activity.

These standards are in place to give customers peace of mind, as any cleaning chemical approved to EN 14476 has been tested and approved as a virucidal product capable of combating viruses such as influenza, while products displaying an EN 1276 have been proven effective against bacteria.

Hand Cleaning and Sanitising

Hand Sanitisers effectively replace soap and warm water when access is limited. Within the Silmid portfolio, there are different types of hand sanitiser, including gels and liquids, as well as a variety of sizes. This choice of size allows the user to pick the right product for each situation, including small pack sizes for personal use, and larger volume sizes for refilling sanitising points across the workplace.

Each hand sanitising product available carries its own EN accreditations including EN 14476 (virucidal), EN 1276 and EN 13727 (bactericidal), EN 13624 (fungicidal) and EN 13624 (yeasticidal).

Surface Sanitising

Hand sanitising is only effective if the surfaces that a user comes into contact with are also clean and free from bacteria and viruses. Silmid’s stock portfolio includes sprays, foams, bulk liquids and pre-saturated wipes, all of which are effective cleaners and sanitisers for hard surface areas.

These products are ideal for use in workplace environments, especially on surfaces such as work benches, door handles and stair rails, and carry many EN accreditations.

Aircraft Specific Products

While hand and surface sanitising is essential for everyday life, it is also important to consider the need for specific aircraft applications. Within our sanitising and cleaning portfolio, there are products approved by OEMs such as Boeing, Airbus and Rolls Royce, as well as products designed for both aircraft interior and aircraft exterior use. These cleaners can be used both by the maintenance workers overhauling an aircraft, as well as ground crew in flight attendants to prepare a cabin for flight.

All aircraft use should be carried out in accordance with safety guidelines issued by the EASA and other regulatory bodies, as well as in accordance with the relevant section of the Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM).
