Aerospace OEM

OEM stands for 'Original Equipment Manufacturer' in aerospace. The acronym refers to companies that design and manufacture the original components or systems used in aircraft assembly. These manufacturers are responsible for developing various parts such as engines, avionics, landing gear, and other critical systems that contribute to the overall performance and safety of the aircraft.

The aerospace market contributes billions of pounds to the global economy each year, and this process begins with the design, manufacture and assembly of aircraft by the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM).

Silmid continues to deliver a wide variety of product approved by major OEMs such as Airbus and Boeing, with a growing portfolio designed to meet changing demands and newer generation aircraft. Partnering with key brands such as AeroShell, PPG Aerospace, 3M, Eastman and many more, we hold large stock volumes to support OEMs.

High Performance Lubricants - Product Spotlight: AeroShell Piston Engine Oil W 15W-50

AeroShell Piston Engine Oil

Within our growing portfolio, we have extensive stock availability of greases and oils to satisfy all requirements. With our links to key manufacturers such as AeroShell and Rocol, we are able to ensure smooth supply of greases, hydraulic fluids and assembly compounds for use across the aircraft.

AeroShell Oil W 15W-50 is one of our leading lubricants. It is a unique blend of high quality mineral oil and over 50% synthetic hydrocarbon base stocks, plus the AeroShell Oil W ashless dispersant additive system. This blend offers high performance in a variety of applications.

The synthetic base stock performance provides for better cold temperature pumping and protection than single grade oils. In addition, the blend of synthetic and high quality mineral base stocks provide high temperature performance superior to that of other fully approved aircraft piston engine oils. The mineral base stocks help disperse lead by-products of combustion, thereby keeping engines free of “grey paint” or lead sludge that can be a problem with some fully synthetic oils.

Fuel Tank and Fuselage Sealants - Product Spotlight: PPG PR1440 A-4

With the global push for cost savings and environmental responsibility, aerospace OEMs have increased the demand for weight saving sealants. A range of low density options are available from PPG, 3M Aerospace and Naftoseal, covering critical sealing operations such as fuel tanks, firewalls, access doors and windshields and canopies.

PPG PR1440 Class A is an aircraft-integral, two-part fuel tank sealant. Designed for the brush sealing of fasteners in fuel tanks and other aircraft fuselage sealing applications, the cured sealant maintains elastomeric properties after exposure to both jet fuel and aviation gas.

This product is a manganese dioxide cured polysulphide compound and the uncured material is suitable for application by brush in thickness up to 25 mils.

Structural Adhesive Compounds - Product Spotlight: Loctite AA 330

Although largely unseen, adhesives are a critical component of any aircraft manufacturing process. Structural adhesives have for many years added extra rigidity to substrates held together by rivets or fasteners. Today, they take on an additional role, bonding newly manufactured composite materials together, saving weight in the process. The majority of Silmid’s structural adhesive range is in either paste or film form.

Loctite AA 330 is a pale-yellow, general purpose structural bonder which is ideal for bonding dissimilar substrates like PVC, phenolic and acrylic compounds.

Loctite AA 330 glue is a no-mix, pale-yellow, general purpose structural bonder which is ideal for bonding dissimilar substrates like PVC, phenolic and acrylic compounds. It is a medium to high viscosity product that has good impact resistance as well as a service temperature range up to +100°C.
