PPG PR-1422 Discontinued due to REACH

Due to REACH regulations, Sil-Mid Ltd will no longer be distributing PR-1422 Fuel Tank Sealant. However we are able to offer recommended alternatives.

PPG Aerospace

We have been advised the following by manufacturer PPG Aerospace;
"In 2006, the European Union passed a piece of legislation known as REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and restriction of Chemical substances) with the intent to protect human health and the environment. In accordance with REACH, PPG Aerospace will cease manufacture of PR-1422 in the European Union in 3rd quarter of 2013. It is anticipated that supply to customers inside the European Union will end during the 4th quarter of 2013. Manufacture of PR-1422 will continue in the United States and availability of the product to the America’s , Africa, the Middle East, and Asia/Pacific will be unaffected."

Recommended Substitutes

The replacement product for all grades of PR-1422, will be PR-1440 which has a 50 year track record of success in the Aerospace industry. For most customers, this will enable an inventory reduction.

PPG PR-1440 CLASS A - PR-1440 Class A is an aircraft integral fuel tank sealant.

Features

  • It has a service temperature range from -54°C (-65°F) to 121°C (250°F), with intermittent excursions up to 135°C (275°F).
  • This material is designed for brush sealing of fasteners in fuel tanks and other aircraft fuselage sealing applications.
  • The cured sealant maintains excellent elastomeric properties after prolonged exposure to both jet fuel and aviation gas.

PPG PR-1440 CLASS B - PR-1440 Class B is an aircraft integral fuel tank sealant.

Features
  • It has a service temperature range from -54°C (-65°F) to 121°C (250°F), with intermittent excursions up to 135°C (275°F).
  • This material is designed for fillet sealing of fuel tanks and other aircraft fuselage sealing applications. The cured sealant maintains excellent elastomeric properties after prolonged exposure to both jet fuel and aviation gas.

Lightweight - PR-1776MB

PR-1776MB which is recommended for Boeing and Bombardier aircraft (there are currently no light weight A or C grades in use at Boeing and PR1440 can be used). PR-1776M Class B is a low density, high temperature aircraft integral fuel tank sealant.

  • It has a service temperature range from -65°F (-54°C) to 250°F (121°C), with very limited excursions up to 360°F (182°C).
  • This material is designed for fillet sealing of fuel tanks and other aircraft fuselage sealing applications.
  • It offers as much as a twenty percent weight savings, per unit volume, over traditional sealants used for these purposes.
  • The cured sealant maintains excellent elastomeric properties after prolonged exposure to aircraft fuels both jet fuel and aviation gas, and will resist limited contact to diposphate ester based hydraulic fluids.

For Airbus aircraft PR-1782 is recommended (A, B, and C grades are available).

PPG PR-1782 CLASS B

PR-1782 Class B is a low density, aircraft fuel tank and general purpose sealant.

  • It offers as much as a thrity percent weight savings, per unit volume, over traditional sealants used for these purposes.
  • The cured sealant maintains excellent elastomeric properties after prolonged exposure to aircraft fuels both jet fuel and aviation gas, and will resist limited contact to diphosphate ester based hydraulic fluids.
PPG PR-1782 CLASS C - PR-1782 Class C is a low density, aircraft fuel tank and general purpose sealant.

  • It has a service temperature range from -54°C to 121°C( -65°F to 250°F).
  • This material is designed for fay surface sealing applications. It offers as much as a twenty percent weight savings, per unit volume, over traditional sealants used for these purposes.
  • The cured sealant maintains excellent elastomeric properties after prolonged exposure to aircraft fuels both jet fuel and aviation gas, and will resist limited contact to diphosphate ester based hydraulic fluids.

Fast Cure

Fast Cure PR-1826 is a fast cure alternative and is recommended and is on the maintenance manuals for Boeing and Airbus aircraft for both fuel tank and aerodynamic applications. 

PPG PR-1826 CLASS B - PR-1826 Class B is a rapid cure, aircraft integral fuel tank sealant.

Features
  • It has a service temperature range from -80°F (-62°C) to 320°F (160°C), with intermittent excursions up to 420°F (216°C).
  • This material is designed for fillet sealing of fuel tanks and other aircraft fuselage sealing applications.
  • The cured sealant maintains excellent elastomeric properties after prolonged exposure to both jet fuel and aviation gas.
