Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) is a Nondestructive testing (NDT) process for detecting discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials such as iron, nickel, cobalt, and some of their alloys. Magnetic inks used in MPI are suspensions of fine ferro/ferrimagnetic particles which, when applied to a magnetized test specimen, delineate surface flaws.
