Semco Glow-in-the-Dark (GID) tools are precision molded application tools for sealants, adhesives, and other paste materials commonly used in the aerospace industry. Semco GID spatulas are manufactured from a proprietary polymer that glows in the dark after being charged by a light source. Semco GID technology aids operators in finding tools that are dropped or left behind in enclosed areas where limited light exists (such as aircraft fuel tanks), ultimately minimizing instances of Foreign Object Debris (FOD). PPG Industries, SemcoPackaging & Application Systems has formulated a proprietary polymer blend that maintains a constant glow until the charge has been exhausted.
Once the initial charge has been exhausted, Semco GID spatulas can easily be recharged with LED, Ultra-Violet Light (and subsets thereof), sun light, incandescent light (including Halogen), or fluorescent light. PPG manufactures application tools in a variety of shapes and sizes and has the capability to mold most of the existing tools out of the new GID technology, offering end users an added benefit to reduce FOD. Semco GID tools are designed for use, primarily in areas where limited light is available, such as aircraft fuel tanks (center & wing) or vertical & horizontal stabilizers.
