Lead is one of the least reactive of the metallic elements, the compound is highly non-contaminative and is impervious to the effect of salt, water, steam, oils, ammonia and hydrocarbons. As a metallic thread lubricant that prevents thread corrosion and assures easy future disassembly, it is used extensively for sealing the fittings on hydraulic, propane, butane, gasoline and petroleum oil lines. In fact it is prohibited ONLY in relation to pure oxygen and Freon systems.
